HIPPOTHERAPY (therapy on horseback): One of the ways it is most effective for me to work on coordination and speech is with the physical therapy on horseback offered by Fran Judd at her Renaissance Healing & Learning Center in Cotati, CA. If you are in northern California, you can follow the link or call Fran at 707-664-8919. For a hippotherapy center in your area follow the link to NAHRA.
ACUPUNCTURE and CHI GUNG: These ancent healing arts are powerful and have been and continue to be very helpful for me. Look for experienced and skilled practioners in your area.
COOKING EQUIPMENT: Since I love to cook I have found special equipment for the kitchen like:
One-handed cutting boards at Allegro Medical.com
And rocking knives at Sears
Allegro Medical has many other tools which are helpful for stroke survivors.
REST: I work hard and I rest. I can't emphasize enough the importance of taking naps and getting enough sleep. Allowing myself to rest gives my body a chance to heal and to build my endurance.
PLAY: I don't like to make my therapy boring. I fiind ways to have fun. Discount drugstores and department stores sell small hand toys like balls I can squeeze or toys I can balance. I like to try things that will bring a smile to my face.
