facesspacerSelf-care starts with a realization that we’re part of a larger whole — that none of us exists independently of one another and everything else.

Below are links to other resources that some of us have found helpful. If you have recommendations, please let us know so that we can add to the list.

Rita's recommendations: Rita Martin is an example of what is possible in recovery. Her tenacity and determination continue to bring her new abilities even many years after her strokes. Follow this link to Rita's recommendations.

Carol Howard-Wooton, MA, MFT, is a family therapist who had a stroke and works with families and survivors through her organization, Keeping Hope Alive. Carol can be reached at 415-455-8600.

The Stroke Foundation

I have found this site to be comprehensive and thoughtful.

"The focal point of TheStrokeFoundation.com is three fold," states the Founder and Developer M. McCafferty. "First, to provide information and resources for people who have been affected by stroke; second, to help educate the public about stroke; and third, to simplify the search for information about stroke by providing a one-stop solution for visitors so they can get the latest information from many sources in one place."

You might also want to check out the American Stroke Association and the National Stroke Association.
